Abstract

A variable lumbar support has a support assembly mountable on a seat frame, a pressure element engaged with the support assembly to move in relation to it. The pressure surface moves in and out to adjust support of a seat occupant s spine, and may also move up and down for further adjustment. A first traction element engaged with the support assembly and the pressure element moves the pressure element generally up and a second traction element engaged with the support assembly and with the pressure element moves the pressure element generally down. At least one actuator engaged with the traction elements causes the movement. The traction elements may be traction cables. The linkage of the traction elements with the pressure surface may be by a slider.
