Abstract

The invention relates to an energy-saving device which powers highly-efficient sodium vapour lights and to a method which enables an additional electrical energy saving to be made by means of a time reduction in the luminous flux from the highly-efficient sodium vapour light. The operation of the inventive energy-saving device includes low supply voltage protection, supply voltage regulation and protection against the absence of or damage to the light. The inventive method comprises: a sequence for the reliable switching on of the light, a frequency modulation routine for the suppression of acoustic resonances, and an automatic turning-off sequence in the event of damage to the photocell that accompanies said type of devices.
