Abstract
It is an object of the present invention to provide a brake valve for a locomotive having a spring having reinforcing/damping function. The assembly with the locomotive brake valve 10 comprises a metallic compression member 21 having a predetermined dynamic rated load and a predetermined length, and an elastomer material 22 for surrounding and storing the compression member 21. In the assembly, an improvement that the spring 20 providing the reinforcing/damping function and for substantially minimizing spring vibration of the brake valve 10 is performed.
Description
LOCOMOTIVE BRAKE VALVE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates, in general, to a locomotive brake valve, and more particularly, this invention relates to a spring having improved damping capabilities in combination with a locomotive brake valve.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Prior to the present invention, a locomotive brake valve is equipped with at least one spring that provided a mechanical force against a diaphragm to generate air pressure in the valve. The vibration of the spring occurs as a result of the operation of the spring at its natural frequency, or the vibration that is introduced to the spring through its environment during the normal operation of the brake valve. This vibration can damage the components of the brake valve assembly.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION In a first aspect, the present invention provides a locomotive brake valve having a spring with improved damping capabilities.
The spring includes a compression member having a predetermined load value and a predetermined length, and an elastomeric material encapsulating the "compression member" In a further aspect, the present invention provides a type of 26 automatic brake valves having a spring with improved damping capabilities In yet another aspect, the present invention provides an SA type automatic brake valve having a spring with improved damping capabilities In yet another aspect, the present invention provides an automatic brake valve type 30 having a spring with improved damping capabilities.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION Therefore, a main object of the present invention is to provide a brake valve having a spring with improved damping capabilities. A further object of the present invention is to substantially minimize the vibration of the spring in a brake valve assembly.
Even a further object of the present invention is to substantially minimize damage to the components of the brake valve assembly as a result of vibration of the spring. In addition to the various objects of the invention that have been described above, several other objects and advantages will become more readily apparent to those skilled in the relevant art from the following more detailed description of the invention, particularly, when the description is taken. in conjunction with the appended figures and the appended claims.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a preferred embodiment so far of a locomotive brake valve assembly comprising a spring having improved damping capabilities; and Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view, which shows the portion of the locomotive brake valve assembly comprising a spring having improved damping capabilities.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED MODALITY UNTIL NOW AND SEVERAL ALTERNATIVE MODALITIES OF THE PRESENT
INVENTION Before proceeding to a more detailed description of the invention, it should be noted that identical components having identical functions have been designated with identical reference numbers for clarity. Referring now more particularly to Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings. Illustrated therein is a locomotive brake valve, generally designated 10, which comprises a spring, generally designated 20 to provide improved damping capabilities, having a compression member 21 of a predetermined load value. and a predetermined length, and an elastomeric material 22 encapsulating the compression member 21. Preferably, a compression member 21 is helical, wherein the elastomeric material 22 substantially surrounds the compression member 21. The elastomeric material 22 is a predetermined shape . Preferably, the shape is cylindrical, and includes an inner cylinder 25 and an outer cylinder 26. The compression member 21 is deposited in the middle of such an inner cylinder 25 and such an outer cylinder 26 of the elastomeric material 22. The compression material 21 is metal. Preferably, the metal is steel. The elastomeric material further includes a predetermined composition as means for substantially limiting the vibration of the spring 20. The elastomeric material 22 is preselected from the group consisting of neoprene, chloroprene, silicone rubber and nitrile rubber. Preferably, the elastomeric material 22 is neoprene. The spring 20 is positioned in the middle of pressure regulating means, generally designated 30, and a spring seat 40. The spring 20 further includes a first end 23 and a second end 24. Preferably, the first end 23 of the spring 20 makes contact with the means regulating the pressure 30 and the second end 24 is located at a predetermined position. Preferably, the pressure regulating means 30 is a diaphragm 31, and the predetermined position of the second end 24 is adjustable. The spring 20 is coupled against the diaphragm 31 as means for exerting mechanical force to generate air pressure in the brake valve 10. In combination with a locomotive brake valve 10 having a diaphragm 31, and a spring seat 40, the improvement comprises at least one spring 20 having improved damping capabilities. In combination with the automatic brake valve 26-C, the improvement further comprises a spring 20 having improved damping capabilities, in combination with an independent SA type brake valve, the improvement comprises a spring 20 having damping capabilities improved. In combination with a type 30 brake valve, the improvement comprises two springs 2 having improved damping capabilities. Although the invention has been shown in connection with a certain specific embodiment, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the shape and arrangement of the parts and the method to conform to the requirements without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. the invention. It is noted that in relation to this date, the best method known by the applicant to carry out the aforementioned invention, is the conventional one for the manufacture of the objects to which it relates.
