Abstract
A structural frame member that has two parts (12, 14) connected by at least one collapsible part (16), whereby the two parts can be drawn towards each other to trap an item between spaced formations (26, 42) extending from sides of said parts.
Description
STRUCTURAL BASPDOR MEMBERS DESCRIPTION This invention concerns frame structural members and particularly concerns frame structural members such as the frames to support the window frames. An object of this invention is to provide frame structural members to form frames that can retain, for example, window frames or door frames. According to this invention, a structural frame member is provided that two parts connected in at least one collapsible part, wherein the two parts can be directed towards each of them to catch another piece between spaced formations extending from sides of said parts. parts, preferably for catching pieces on both sides of the frame member between spaced formations extending from both sides of said parts.
The two parts are preferably connected by a pair of folding meshes and a part preferably have a final formation that fits with the other part when they are folded together, said superimposed portions to a certain extent, which preferably has a limit. The extended spaced formations are preferably flanges and these may be flat or molded. For pieces having channel formations extending from their sides, the formations of the structural member may also be a channel section or other complementary formations for coupling with each other. The flanges may be molded to fit, such as having a serrated surface or other uneven surface or it may be in the form of 25 L to be fixed in the channel formations of the part to be trapped. Faces of the eyelashes to delimit window frames can be provided with sealing means. Grooves molded along said faces may be provided to retain flexible sealing strips.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the frame structural member comprises a larger part having side walls connected by a pair of separate meshes on the inside from the ends of the side walls and a smaller part having side walls connected by a mesh, 5 the two parts being connected by a pair of folding meshes each between a pair of aligned sides of each part, where when not in the folded position it can be placed against opposite ends of the member and when in the folded position trapped between formations extending outward from the major and minor parts of the member. Two parts of the structural member of the invention preferably each having means for retaining a cover strip to extend to either side of the structural member to cover the joints with the trapped parts. Preferably inner surfaces of the sides of the structural member have formations therein, such as ribs or the like for
15 retaining cooperative formations of said strip covers. The cover strips may be of a single wall or more preferably are twin walls especially forming multiple conduits for insulation purposes. The edges of the cover strips will preferably retain packing material or will have extruded packing materials lengthwise.
The frame structural members are particularly suitable for use in stringers in the formation of a frame for receiving window frames. The frame preferably includes a base member and a top member, such as an eaves frame. To fix the upper and lower members to the structural members, meshes of the structural members are preferably
25 formed with receptacles for screws through the upper and lower members respectively towards the structural members. To fold a structural member of the invention to catch parts, such as window frames, the two parts can be delineated
mnm ^^^ jointly by means of screws through a mesh of one part towards a conduit of the other part. The invention comprises a glazed structure having a frame comprising structural members of the invention with window frames 5 mounted on them and sides fitted therein between the folded portions of said structural members. The structural members used in the invention may be of any suitable material. Aluminum and uPVC are preferred materials, although in the case of uPVC reinforcing members, such as aluminum or steel may be required. Such reinforcement members can be molded in one or both parts of the structural member or can be molded to be fixed in the channels or conduits thereof. This invention will now be further described, by way of examples only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is an end view of the first structural member according to the present invention in unfolded form; Figure two shows the structural member of Figure 1 in folded form; Figure 3 shows a first stage of connectable window frames 20 to the structural member of Figures 1 and 2; Figure 4 shows a window frame connected to the structural member of Figures 1 and 2; Figure 5 shows a first variation of the structural member of Figure 1; and Figure 6 shows a second variation of the structural member of the
Figure 1.
Referring to Figures 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawings, a frame structural member 10 comprises two parts 12, 14 connected by folding meshes 16. The first part 12 has sides 18 connected by meshes 20, 22 spaced inwardly from the sides. ends of the edges 18. The outer edges 24 having L-shaped tabs extending outwardly 26 forming open channels opposite to the edges. On the inside of the edges 24 has notches 28. The farthest part of the mesh 20 has a slot for screw 30 and in the closest part of the mesh 22 has a slot for screw 31. The opposite edges 32 of the sides 18 are recessed at 34. Precisely before the recesses one end of each of the folding meshes 16 is connected and the other edges of the pleated meshes are connected to the edges of the side walls 36 of the second part 14 of the frame member. 10. The second part 14 has its side walls 36 connected by a conduit 38. The outer edges of the side walls 36 have L-shaped flanges extending outwardly 42 that form open channels towards the flanges 26 of the first part 12 of the member. structural for frame. On the inside of the side walls 36 has notches 44, the inner ends of the side walls 36 are recessed on their exterior to complement the rebates of the ends 32 of the sides 18 of the first part 12 of the member 10.
The member 10 is designed to be collapsed (as shown in Figure 2) to trap the sides of the window frame 50 (see Figures 3 and 4) between the respective pairs of the flanges 26 and 42 on opposite sides of the member 10 Conveniently the sides of the window frame have L-shaped projections 52 which secure the channels formed by the flanges 26 and 42. The structural member 10 is collapsed when screwing through the network 38 of the second part 14 into the 22 of the second part to direct the meshes towards them. While that occurs the meshes 16 are folded to trap the sides of the window frame between the pairs of flanges 26, 42. subsequently cover strips 52 are pressed into place at the end of the member 10 to cover the joints with the frames window. The cover strips 56 have a pair of projections 58 that are molded at their ends to pass over the notches 28 or 44 of the side walls of the structural member and will be retained by them. On each side of the cover strips there is extruded packing material for sealing against the window frames. The members of the frame 10 intend to be incorporated into a frame comprising a frame for eaves and a lower frame, each of which can be secured to the member 10 by means of screws through the slots for screws 30 and 31. Referring to Figure 5 of the accompanying drawings, a variation of the members of the frame 10 is shown for use with window frames or panels that do not have recesses for the L-shaped tabs 26. Instead the tabs 26 'are straight and have T-shaped grooved sections 68 along their internal face to receive the strips 70. Then, when the members of the frame of Figure 5 are folded to capture a window frame, the flanges 26 'fix and seal against the window frames. The variation of Figure 6 has stepped tabs 26"to close against the window frames while the member is folded in. Sealing against the window frames is provided by decorative sealing strips 56 ', which are held in place. not only in the same manner as the cover strips 56 of the main representation but also by means of edges 80 which are fixed by pressure on the stepped ends 82 of the flanges, and which has extruded or heat-bonded stamps 84 a Along the edges to be compressed against the window frames An advantage of the frame members of the invention is that the window frames can be installed with the pre-installed glass because seals do not have to be used across the sides of the window frames on the structural members of the frame.
