Description
REINFORCED PACKAGING WITH RECERRABLE CLOSURE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to the field of reclosable packagings. More particularly, the present invention relates to a reinforced package having a reclosable closure. Description of the Previous Technology Reinforced packaging that has reclosable closures are well known in the technology of reclosable packaging. For example, U.S. Patent No. 4,736,450 discloses this type of packaging. In a typical prior technology of reinforced packaging having reclosable closures, the front wall and the back wall of the package are joined by expanding the lateral reinforcements. The interlocking reclosable closure profiles are sealed towards the front wall and the rear wall at the free upper end portions of the packing walls that are not joined by the reinforcements. However, this does not provide integrity to the package. Correspondingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved reinforced package having a reclosable closure that overcomes the problems associated with prior technology, as indicated above. Alternatively, a reclosable closure can be sealed to the front wall, with the reinforcement and the front wall and the back wall sealed together at the top of the package. This does not provide a full opening of the reinforcement at the top of the bag. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In accordance with the present invention, a reclosable packaging is provided. The package includes opposite walls extending from the bottom of the package, the walls of which are joined on opposite sides of the package by two reinforced, expanding sides. The packaging also includes a reclosable closure adhered to the walls of the packaging. The reclosable closure comprises a pair of interlocking complementary fastening profiles carried by a carrier membrane. The carrier membrane includes two opposite walls joined at their ends by a pair of opposed reinforcements extending beyond the ends of the fastener profile. The fastening profiles are fastened to the surfaces of the opposite inner wall of the carrier membrane and the carrier membrane is sufficiently thin in the reinforced area so that when the fastener profiles are locked, the carrier membrane reinforcements are trapped between the exposed profiles. planters The present invention will now be described in detail, with frequent reference to the drawings identified below in which the identical numbers represent identical elements. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a reclosable closure according to the present invention, open; Figure 2 is a plan view of a reclosable closure of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a perspective view of a reclosable closure of the closed Figure 1; Figure 4 is an end view of the reclosable closure of Figure 3; Figure 5 is a perspective view of a reclosable packaging according to one of the embodiments of the present invention; Figure 6 is a perspective view of a reclosable packaging according to another embodiment of the present invention; Figure 7 is a perspective view of a section of a resealable package having a slidable closure according to still another embodiment of the present invention, and Figure 8 is a perspective view of a closure carrying strap from which is the closure of Figure 1. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT In accordance with the present invention, a reclosable closure 10 is shown in Figure 8. The closure 10 includes a first fastener profile 12 and a second complementary fastener profile 14, both carried by a carrier membrane 16. The profiles
12, 14 can be released in an interlocking manner and can have any configuration that allows a hook that can be released. The walls 25, 27 of the carrier membrane 16 which is sufficiently thin to allow the profiles 12, 14 to engage even when a double fold is docked therebetween.
In Figure 8, the first fastener profile 12 has an asymmetric arrow-shaped cross section and the second fastener profile 14 has a U-shaped cross section. The fastener profiles are formed of any of the many suitable well-known plastics for the people ordinarily qualified in reclosable packaging technology. As shown in Figure 8, the carrier membrane 16 includes sections of a carrier membrane 25, 27 to which the lengths of the coupling profiles 12, 14 are intermittently fixed to define the profile free areas 21, 23 between the profile that shares the areas of the wall 18, 20. The free areas of the profile 21, 23 on opposite sides of each of the lengths of the support walls of the profiles 18, 20 make a slit and join together in such a manner that a pair of opposite reinforcements 22 is formed. That is, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, with the closure profiles unengaged, the closure membrane 16 assumes a band shape defined by the pair of support walls of the fastener. opposite profile 18, 20 connected at their ends by a pair of reinforcements 22, each defined by joined lengths of the sections of the free conductive membrane of the profile. The profile support walls 18, 20 have a length substantially equal to the width of the package to which the closure 10 will be fastened and the reinforcements 22 have a length when expanded which is equal to the length of the expanded reinforcements on the package to which the closure 10 will be fastened in such a way that each of the free areas of the profile 21, 23 of the carrier membrane 15 has twice the length. As shown in Figures 3 and 4, when the profiles of the fastener 12, 14 are locked, the reinforcements 22 of the carrier membrane 16 are captured between the fastening profiles 12, 14, forming a packing. The carrier membrane 16 is constructed in such a way that it is sufficiently thin to facilitate its capture between the profiles of the fastener. The carrier membrane 16 additionally includes a reinforcing rib 26 on its upper part that provides rigidity. Optionally, the carrier membrane 16 may also include a band 28 at its bottom to provide additional reinforcement as well as to prevent it from sealing in case the closure 10 must be heat sealed to the interior walls of a package. If the closure is to be attached to the outer walls of a package, the web 28, instead, may be formed of a suitable adhesive well known to those ordinarily skilled in reclosable packaging technology. Figure 5 shows a reclosable packaging 30 according to one of the embodiments of the present invention. The package 30 includes a first wall and a second wall 32, 34, which extend upwards from the bottom 36. The walls 32, 34 are joined together on opposite sides of the package by a pair of side reinforcements that are expand 38. The first wall and the second wall 32, 34 each further include opposite free end portions 40, 42 also joined by the expanding lateral reinforcements 38. As shown in Figure 5, the closure 10 is placed between the opposite free end portions 40, 42 and the reinforcements 38 with the walls 18, 20 in the carrier membrane 16 are sealed thereto and the carrier reinforcement 22 is sealed to the reinforcements 38. Preferably, the closure 10 is heat sealed to the opposite free end portions 40,
42, and the reinforcements 38, although the closure 10 can be fastened thereto by means of an adhesive. In an earlier case, the band of the carrier membrane 28 acts as an additional reinforcing rib and as prevention of sealing and in the latter case the band of the carrier membrane 28 is itself the adhesive. The package 30 optionally further includes a peel seal 44 joining the portions of the opposite free end 40, "42 and the reinforcements 38.
-To open the package 30, the user simply unhooks the fastener profiles 12, 14 and opens the peel seal 44. To avoid saturation, the reinforcement rib 26 and the adhesion 28 are not shown in Figure 8 but obviously must be in the positions shown in Figures 4 and 5. Figure 6 shows a reclosable packaging according to other embodiments of the present invention. In this case, the walls of the carrier membrane 18, 20 are fastened to the outer surfaces of the free end portions 40, 42, instead of the inner surfaces as shown in Figure 5. The band of the carrier membrane 28 It is formed of an adhesive to facilitate its attachment. Optionally, a slider 46 can be included to open and close the fastening profiles 12, 14, as shown in Figure 7. In this case, the fastening profiles 12, 14 must be specially configured to cooperate with this glider of such The slider opens the closure while moving together with the fastener profiles in an opening direction toward an open end "of the closure and closes the closure while moving together with the profiles in a closed direction toward a In addition, the slider must be configured in such a way that the reinforcements 22, when folded, do not interfere with the operation of the slider. Thus, a slider that makes use of a tab to separate would not be suitable. The slider 46 shown in Figure 7 opens the closure by pivoting the specially configured profiles out of the latching position, because the slider 46 does not have a tongue. Separator tab, bent reinforcements 22 pass between the legs without obstruction of the slider. However, it is evident from Figure 7 that when a slider is used, the reinforcement 22 at the open end of the closure will always be bent, even when the closure is open. However, this should provide little interference or no interference with the expansion of the reinforcements of the package 38, especially towards the bottom of the package.
The profiles of the fastener 12, 14 can be fastened to the inner surface or the outer surface of the walls of the carrier membrane 18, 20. End stops 48 are provided in the fastener profiles to prevent the glider from sliding out of the fastener. the ends of the closure. Thus, in the above manner, the object of the present invention is achieved. The modifications to the foregoing may be obvious to persons ordinarily qualified in the technology, but who do not carry the modified invention beyond the scope of the appended claims.
