Abstract

Any surgical procedure requires an antiseptic process for reducing germs present in the surgical area, so that surgical infection risks are reduced. Most chemical products useful for the aforementioned purpose are iodine derivatives. However, the commercial preparations of said compounds are not intended to use in ocular surgery. The present invention is related to an antiseptic system for ocular surgery, which includes two iodine-based compounds: a gel to be applied to the skin about the eye and an ophthalmic solution to be topically applied to the ocular tissue, both compounds are applied in specific and suitable concentrations to accomplish their function without damaging said structures.
