Abstract
Un conmutador de fibra optica de acuerdo con la presente invencion incluye una fibra optica, un sistema generador de señal de conmutacion electronica y un sistema de acoplamiento; la fibra optica tiene una birrefrigencia de entre 10-5 y 10-6 y un área efectiva de por lo menos 40 micras cuadradas; el sistema generador genera una señal de conmutacion electronica que tiene un nivel de potencia que induce birrefrigencia no lineal en la fibra optica ocasionando que una señal de entrada en la fibra optica conmute modos de polarizacion; el sistema de acoplamiento acopla la señal de entrada y la señal de conmutacion electronica en la fibra optica; la fibra optica del conmutador de fibra optica está diseñada para llevar al mínimo efectos no lineales que pudieran degradar una señal de entrada en el conmutador de fibra optica; en particular, el conmutador de fibra optica está diseñado para reducir la cantidad de potencia requerida por la señal de conmutacion electronica para conmutar la señal de entrada en la fibra optica., reduciendo de esta manera la posibilidad de la fusion de fibra y la generacion de solitones de orden más alto a través de efectos de Raman.
