Abstract
Un sistema y método para la migracion de datos de tiempo real en un sistema de computadoras en red (1) utiliza una característica del sistema operativo, un archivo escaso (4C), para representar un archivo que migro. El archivo escaso consume una cantidad mínima de espacio físico en el servidor de archivos (10), pero está definido porque tiene el mismo tamaño y atributos que el archivo original. Cuando un usuario accesa un archivo que migro, el archivo parece estar residente en el servidor de archivos y es regresado automáticamente y transparentemente a un servidor de archivos desde la ubicacion de almacenamiento optimizado en un sistema de manejo de almacenamiento jerárquico (20, 30).
