A medical material comprising two collagenous membranes and a meshed intermediate material, which is used as an artificial organ, wound covering material, wound prosthesis, wound healing material, adhesion preventive, and so forth, is excellent in biocompatibility, histocompatibility and mechanical strengths, especially adaptability to suturing, has a low antigenicity, and does not cause peeling of the collagenous membranes. It is produced by sandwiching a meshed intermediate material having an average pore diameter of 100-2,000 'mu'm between two collagenous membranes with the use of an adhesive, holding the assembly under reduced pressure so as to effect contact adhesion of the collagenous membranes, and cross-linking the resultant assembly. If necessary, the membranes may be succinylated.
