Abstract
This invention describes a novel method of emulsifiable contaminants encapsulation such as hydrocarbons found in soil systems or industrial procedure residues; method utilizes a novel surfactant agent for contaminant de-absorption and emulsification followed by adding a silicate solution; surfactant agent alkali-earth portion catalyzes or causes silicate to precipitate as silica, and to immediately form an encapsulating cover around de-absorbed and emulsified material; this encapsulation method only reacts with contaminant in a contaminated soil matrix and not with host soil or residue matrix; encapsulating cover will have a diameter or size directly related to emulsifying procedure efficiency and to mycelium size resulting from emulsifier and contaminant; generally, encapsulating cover diameter will be of approximately 200 microns; this micro-emulsion, only from contaminant, produces a treated soil essentially with same physical characteristics as no treated soil.
