Abstract

A telephone (100, 200) that can access both wired and wireless communication systems has a telephone company interface (215) to establish a connection to a wired local loop (110), a transceiver (220) to establish a connection to a wireless local loop (120), and a user interface circuit (255) for allowing a user to select a wired or wireless local loop access system for making a telephone call. An interface circuit (290) electrically interconnects a wired local loop access connection (210), a wireless local loop access connection (220), an extension device connection (270), and a user interface circuit (255). The interface circuit (290) includes a computer processor section (296) for controlling the low of audio and control signals to the various interfaces and a microprocessor (297) and electronic memory (298) to enable both default and manual selection of a local loop access system.
