Abstract

Magnetic particles of mixed oxides from the group comprising the ferrites, which have a particle diameter of 1 to 10 nm and a specific surface area of 120 to 350 m2/g and to which surface functional silanes are bound. The highly disperse particles can be prepared by precipitating the mixed oxides from aqueous basic solution in the presence of hydrolysable silanes having functional groups stable to hydrolysis. The mixed oxides are suitable as carrier material for immobilizing organic and biological substances.
