Abstract
A process for the production of acetic acid which process comprises introducing carbon monoxide and a carbonylatable reactant to a reactor in which there is maintained a liquid reaction composition comprising a Group VIII noble metal catalyst, an alkyl halide promoter, an optional co-promoter, and at least a finite concentration of water characterised in that the carbonylatable reactant comprises greater than 10 percent by weight dimethyl ether.
