Abstract

The present invention discloses a process for substantially reducing residual monomers resulting from an emulsion-polymerization reaction. The process comprises subjecting latex to an oxide-reduction process after completion of said polymerization reaction. The recommended conditions are a homopolymer or copolymer having vinyl monomers and/or conjugated dienes, with a residual amount of monomers not higher than 100,000 ppm at the end of the reaction. After chemical depletion, the amount of residual monomers obtained is from 50 to 1000 ppm in a process which lasts from 0.5 to 5 hours maximum.
