Abstract

The present invention discloses a synthetic prosthesis having an improved design to be exclusively used as tissue reinforcement for surgical treatment of myopectineal orifice hernias (abdominal wall inguinofemoral region). The prosthatic sheets or meshes currently in use for this purpose, are thin sheets made out of diverse polymers. They are very flexible, which result in technical difficulties during surgery (particularly when using a laparoscopical process), thereby forcing the use of many sutures or clamps to keep the mesh unfolded, to prevent it from slipping, and thus fulfilling the objective of reinforcing the mesh. The invention comprises the combination of the mesh or sheet and a thin arch in a prosthatic unit referred to as tension arch mesh; the arch, which is integral with the mesh, taking back its original form after having been handled, thereby acting as a mesh soft tensor, keeping it permanently unfolded. Without making the mesh loose its required characteristic, the arch provides for peripheric consistency which simplifies the mesh placing, the unfolding handling avoids -or reduces- the use of sutures or clamps to attach it to tissues, and prevents it from slipping through the hernial orifice; consequently, the surgery-related risks, expenses and supplies are reduced.
