The edges of the electrode are connected to non-conducting components (30) of the battery, which separate the plurality of electrodes from each other. Those connections are made by means of portions (40) of marginal surface of the electrodes, from which the oxides (36) have been removed. The connections form seals that are safe against electrolyte leakage through the seals.
