Abstract

Se describe un proceso de dos pasos para la preparación de una poliéter sulfona que contiene un grupo éster. La poliéter sulfona así producida, es útil como una resina termoplástica y como un reactivo en el proceso de mezclado en estado fundido, para la preparación de copolímeros de bloque.A two-step process for the preparation of a polyether sulfone containing an ester group is described. In the first step, a dihalogenodiphenyl sulfone is reacted with an excess amount of an aromatic dihydroxy compound and in a second step the reaction product is reacted with a dicarboxylic acid derivative. The excess amount of the aromatic dihydroxy compound is that amount that is sufficient to react with the derivative to form the corresponding ester. The process of the invention is characterized by its economy and good performance, and by the high purity of the product. The polyether sulfone thus produced is useful as a thermoplastic resin and as a reagent in the melt blending process for the preparation of block copolymers.
