Abstract

The menisci of the coating material are held between the porous applicator and the surface of the object to be coated by tensile forces between the coating material and the surface of the object. Thin, uniform coating thicknesses, for example less than about 1 micron, and conformal coatings can be obtained from objects that have uneven surfaces. The methods are useful, for example, for coating objects such as flat panel displays, optical devices, silicon and germanium chips, and hybrid circuit boards.
