Abstract

El intrón portátil de esta invención es una molécula de ADN aislada la cual contiene, en el orden desde el extremo 5' al extremo 3' una secuencia donadora de empalme o unión, una secuencia de clonación múltiple, una secuencia aceptora de la rama de lazo o estructura sigma, una secuencia rica en pirimidina y una secuencia aceptora de empalme. Cuando se inserta un gen extraño en un sitio de clonación múltiple del intrón portátil, y el intrón portátil se inserta dentro de un gen huésped en la orientación apropiada, tanto el gen extraño como el gen del huésped pueden ser transcritos y expresados de manera simultánea. Alternativamente, el intrón portátil puede ser insertado dentro del gen huésped de una manera la cual permita la expresión del gen extraño sin expresión del gen huésped. El intrón portátil es útil para expresar en un animal un gen no se expresa normalmente en el animal, o para corregir un defecto en la expresión del animal del gen. El intrón portátil también es útil para inhibir una función única de una proteína multifuncional expresada por un gen huésped.
