Abstract

The present disclosure is related to a device for measuring the magnetic susceptibility of materials by means of the magnetic induction technique generated in a two coil system: The sensor coil (that detects the variations of the magnetic field induced by the sample) and the external coil (external magnetic field generator), in such a way that the induced voltage can be measured in the sensor coil and relate the susceptibility value with the voltage detected with this coil. The device for measuring the magnetic susceptibility in materials is formed by: a frame, a sensing coil, a reference coil (having the same physical characteristics of the sensor coil, except in that the direction of the winding does not vary by the effect of the sample on the magnetic field), an external coil (inducing a magnetic field that includes both the sensor and the reference coils), a chamber for the sample, an adjustable receptacle, a vacuum chamber, a lock-in amplifier and a function generator. The sample chamber has an inlet to deposit liquid nitrogen; this device is useful for determining magnetic susceptibility of ferromagnetic, diamagnetic or paramagnetic materials as well as superconductors. An important advantage of this device is the vacuum zone that allows the thermal insulation of the sample to be tested; thereby, avoiding distortions in the measurement.
