Abstract

The present invention refers to a novel peptide know as BvTx47 (SEQ ID NO: 1), with analgesic activity, tested on male mice strain CD-1. The peptide comprises 40 amino acids and has a molecular weight of 4559.6 Daltons. Said peptide was isolated and purified from venom of spider Brachypelma verdezy. The peptide may also be obtained by other means such as chemical synthesis or by the recombinant DNA technique for which the invention provides the encoding nucleotide sequence. The peptide BvTx47 (SEQ ID NO: 1) is of a folded beta secondary structure and with disulfide bridges of the direct disulfide hairpin type (DDH), which differs from the structure of further peptides, such as those having an inhibitor cysteine knot structure (ICK).
