Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un método mejorado para la producción de dióxido de cloro, en donde un clorato de metal alcalino, un cloruro de metal alcalino y un ácido mineral fuerte seleccionado del grupo que consiste de ácido sulfúrico y mezclas de ácido sulfúrico y mezclas de ácido sulfúrico y un miembro del grupo que consiste de ácido clorhídrico y ácido fosfórico, se hacen reaccionar continuamente en un generador-evaporador-cristalizador de un sólo recipiente, en proporciones para generar dióxido de cloro y cloro; la temperatura se mantiene entre aproximadamente 65° y aproximadamente 85°C; la acidez de la solución de reacción se mantiene dentro de la escala de aproximadamente 2 a 4 normal; la solución de reacción se somete a un vacío de aproximadamente 100 a aproximadamente 400 milímetros de mercurio absoluto para efectuar la evaporación del vapor de agua; el dióxido de cloro y el cloro producidos mediante la solución de reacción se retiran mezclados en el vapor de agua y la reacción se lleva a cabo en presencia de por lo menos un catalizador que se selecciona del grupo que consiste de pentóxido de vanadio, iones de plata, iones de manganeso, iones de dicromato e iones arsénicos; a la sal de metal alcalino neutral del ácido mineral se cristaliza dentro del generador-evaporador cristalizador y se retira del mismo.
