Abstract

Se contemplan sistemas y métodos de electroestimulación transcraneal en los que se genera una señal eléctrica de corriente alterna equilibrada de carga de alto nivel de corriente para suministrarla a la región occipital del cerebro de un paciente. Al estimular el cerebro con una corriente de estimulación balanceada cargada con una envolvente de corriente de estimulación que define una o más series de pulsos a frecuencias y duraciones particulares diseñadas para provocar una respuesta metabólica en las neuronas, se pueden lograr mejoras significativas en la eficacia y reducciones en la incomodidad del paciente en relación con métodos anteriores de estimulación eléctrica transcraneal, especialmente aquellos en los que dan como resultado que se administre al paciente un componente de corriente directa rectificada resultante. También se pueden obtener otras ventajas, especialmente en la promoción del arrastre neural, mediante el uso de múltiples series de pulsos a diferentes frecuencias y mediante el ajuste dinámico de la forma de onda de estimulación mediante la incorporación de señales de retroalimentación para mantener el equilibrio de carga en tiempo real.
