Abstract

Se presenta un implante espinal que preserva el movimiento para su colocación entre el espacio intervertebral para la sustitución total de un disco espinal degenerado. EI implante espinal de preservación del movimiento tiene un par de placas terminales intercaladas alrededor de un núcleo interno y un núcleo externo, con el núcleo interno colocado concéntricamente dentro del núcleo externo. El núcleo externo encapsula el núcleo interno y proporciona un sellado adecuado del núcleo interno al tiempo que mantiene la flexibilidad y la elasticidad para soportar, ventajosamente los movimientos fisiológicos. El núcleo interno está construido de un material elastomérico y actúa como un diafragma sólido para resistir y soportar la compresión localizada y otras fuerzas. Las placas terminales proporcionan anclaje y fusión con las vértebras adyacentes y mantienen los núcleos interior y exterior en su sitio.
