Abstract
The present invention relates to a synthetic capsaicinoid, N-vanilyl-octanamide, also called ABX-I, with growth inhibitory activity on five phytopathogenic fungi. The compound inhibited the growth of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Botrytis cinerea, Colletotrichum acutatum, Fusarium sp., and Rhizoctonia solani AG2. In contrast, the magnitude of this effect differed from natural capsaicin. Also, it relates to a method for prolonging the shelf life of fruits of agricultural interest since the capsaicinoid ABX-I reduces the symptoms of the decay of the fruits and avoids compromising the growth and development of the plants.
