Abstract
La presente invención se refiere en general a un sistema y método para identificar el origen de uno o más productos comparando su composición microbiana con microbiomas de ubicación conocidos presentes en una base de datos. El microbioma asociado con una única ubicación, tal como una granja, debe tener elementos comunes que difieran de todas las demás granjas debido a una variedad de factores que incluyen la mezcla de ganado en la granja, habitantes humanos, suelo, fuentes de agua, vida vegetal local, clima y patrones climáticos, vida silvestre local e insectos nativos, etc. La inclusión adicional del microbioma presente a lo largo de toda la cadena de procesamiento y distribución será única e identificable debido a factores similares a los enlistados anteriormente. Los métodos de análisis de microbiomas y metagenómicos han mejorado drásticamente, lo que hace que la aplicación de esta tecnología a la identificación y seguridad de productos agrícolas sea un esfuerzo realista.
