Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for the biological treatment of industrial discharges that contain azo dyes characterized by high salinity and alkalinity using the Halomonas sp bacteria, individually or in a combination of at least two species thereof. Also, it possesses the advantages of using the bacterium Halomonas sp in batch and continuous systems, as free or immobilized cells contained in a bioreactor, under static conditions or with a continuous flow of contaminated influent and air supply, at alkaline pH of up to 11 and with up to 10% NaCl, obtaining a percentage of elimination of up to 90%.
