Abstract

Provided is a display method for displaying, on a display device, image-data images for which the luminance of the images has been defined using a first electro-optical transfer function (EOTF) corresponding to a high dynamic range (HDR). In the display method, image data is acquired, and while maintaining the relative relationship of the luminance of a second EOTF which is a portion of the first EOTF and which is a portion of a luminance range in which the maximum luminance is a peak luminance indicated by peak luminance information included in the acquired image data, first conversion for converting image luminance is performed on luminance corresponding to the dynamic range of a third EOTF in which the dynamic range of the luminance of the second EOTF is reduced by making the maximum luminance of the second EOTF match the displayable luminance of the display device, and using the results of first conversion, images are displayed on the display device.
