Abstract

The present disclosure is related to the use of the astaxanthin molecule and to a method for the differentiation of stem cells to cells capable of producing insulin. The possibility of restoring homeostasis in relation to the production and proper use of insulin to maintain glucose levels in a condition that corresponds to that of a person in good health is envisioned. The method comprises: the differentiation of stem cells by stages, in which, by means of the formulation of culture media with different combinations of molecules and the use of astaxanthin, the production of beta-type cells as well as the production of insulin is promoted. The method involves the implementation of cell culture parameters and conditions; as well as the key use of the astaxanthin molecule in the differentiation process. The method of the present invention offers the flexibility of application on stem cells from more than one biological niche.
