Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of synthetic DNA molecules to detect SNPs in the GDF9 gene of animals for providing information on the allelic composition (genotyping) of whole herds of animals as well as individual animals and designing targeted breeding programs to the increase of prolificacy and animal productivity, especially, but not limited to sheep. In the present invention, positive synthetic controls of all homozygous and heterozygous compositions of each SNP of interest in the GDF9 gene are provided as well as the oligonucleotides, which make their identification possible, by a quantitative PCR, combined with HRM beads, and interpreted in comparison with the positive controls. The said procedure allows obtaining reports of genetic diversity of whole flocks and individuals that are directly usable in programs of animal genetic improvement.
