Abstract

The present disclosure is related to a sand particles separator present in gas phase hydrocarbon transport ducts, comprising two containers placed horizontally; the main container is called separation chamber; the same is connected to the flow line by means of a flange system, with an inlet and outlet of the same diameter of the working pipe, working at the operating conditions of the transport line. The separation chamber has a diameter widening where the lower and upper deflector plates, are installed. Also comprises three ducts to pass the particles to a lower container called gathering chamber. The lower deflector plates are placed at a certain angle to re-direct the flow causing the particles to collide with the upper deflector plates, that has a rough surface with notches, which cause the particles to decrease the impulse of the drag forces caused by the flow speed, the large particles fall into the lower part of the separation chamber and dragged towards the collection chamber through conduits that connect both chambers. The collection chamber has a device to extract the separated sand particles; this device is integrated by a series of filtering plates, placed at the ends and in the middle part, which separate each of the ducts where the particles fall, the center plates serve as filters allowing the gas flow to be reintegrated into the main line, stopping the particles and preventing them from recirculating towards the flow line. Both chambers comprise devices to install pressure gauges to monitor the pressure conditions present therein. The collection chamber has a purge system to release the trapped pressure, once the ball valves block the flow allowing the solid particles extraction accumulated in the plate's arrangement. The filtration plates have a polymer edge to facilitate their extraction.
