Abstract
The industry for obtaining primary and secondary lead requires a stage for removing copper and silver. The pyrometallurgical removal of silver dissolved in lead requires the addition of zinc to the melted lead, the metallic bath being agitated for promoting the reaction of the zinc with the dissolved silver. In the pyrometallurgical removal of copper, sulfur or iron sulfur is used, while the liquid lead is agitated. This patent proposes a novel pyro-refining process for removing copper and silver from primary and secondary lead, which consists in the injection of sulfur and zinc powders, respectively, in the core of the melted lead. The efficiency of sulfur and zinc in powder is increased as the superficial area is also increased, thus only being injected the stoichiometric amount.
