Abstract

Nowadays, the need of treating and preventing hepatic diseases has gain importance since they represent one of the first causes of death in the world and an increase in these death cases related to this type of diseases is estimated due to the increase of people suffering from obesity and a high degree of body mass. Some compounds present in plants with antioxidant activity have shown to have a hepatoprotector activity, said activity helping to prevent the increase in the number of deaths caused by hepatic diseases. The present invention refers to the use of the compound luteolin 8-C-ß-[6-deoxy-2-O-(a-l-rhamnopyranosyl)-xylo-hexopyranos-3-ulo sido], derived from luteolin, which is extracted from the Turnera diffusa plant, as an hepaprotector agent.
