Abstract

A level sensor for measuring the level of a liquid in a container, in particular for measuring the level of a fuel in a vehicle tank, is provided with a plurality of capacitive sensors which are superimposed along a measurement path and whose dielectric constant changes with changing level. The level sensor achieves accurate measurement in a structure as simple as possible. This is achieved by that the capacitive sensors have different sizes along the measurement path, where a group of capacitive sensors whose height along the measurement path is relatively large is used for the evaluating the level, and that a second group of capacitive sensors whose height along the measuring distance is relatively small, is used for the reference measurement.
