Abstract

The calibration system for digital rain gauges pertains to the meteorology field. It is a semiautomatic system for calibrating digital rain gauges (SICAP), which calibrates a single rain gauge at the time, in the measuring interval of +10,0 mm/h to +300,0 mm/h, with a standard instrument with traceability. The device is calibrated at 10 calibration points, although the system is flexible since it may be calibrated with more or less calibration points, in increments of 0.1 mm/h. The device has the ability to calibrate rain gauges in meteorological stations or independent operation rain gauges; provided that they have an electric or electronic output signal. Once the rain gauge is calibrated, a mathematical process is performed through the method of least squares for obtaining the new calibration coefficients and the uncertainty of the measurements of the calibrated rain gauge. In this manner the traceability is available in all measurements of the calibrated rain gauges towards the pri mary standards, at national level. The calibration of rain gauges may comply with the recommendations of the World Meteorology Organization, with the quality management systems and the measurement management systems.
