Abstract

The results shown that the manzarina, besides having the nutritive characteristics to be used like a protein supplement and to be included in the production dairy cow diets, in nutritive blocks for supplement of growing steers, bovine and sheep's feedlot diets, contains a high level of yeasts and phenol compounds, which present antioxidant qualities, for which manzarina can have nutraceutical properties and can be used as feed additive to improve the conditions of rumen fermentation and to prevent damages by the oxidative stress caused to the rumen wall and the udder during problems such as the lactic acidosis and the mastitis. The manzarine may be used by producers of milk and meat as an alternative in the diet of the cattle, helping to reduce the contaminant flow to the medium that is produced with the apple byproducts, offering an alternative for the commercialization of apple byproducts.
