Abstract

Se describe aquí un sistema de transmisión adaptable que proporciona una conexión sin estado entre el cliente y el servidor para reproducción de medios de transmisión en donde los datos se formatean en una forma que permite al cliente tomar decisiones y reaccionar más rápidamente a condiciones de red cambiantes. El cliente solicita fragmentos uniformes de medios del servidor que incluyen una porción de los medios. El sistema de transmisión adaptable solícita porciones de un archivo de medios o de un evento de transmisión en vivo en fragmentos de tamaño pequeño cada uno teniendo un URL distinguido. Esto permite que los datos de medios de transmisión se guarden en memoria caché mediante una infraestructura de memoria caché de Internet existente. Cada fragmento contiene información de metadatos que describe la codificación del fragmento y contenido de medios para reproducción por el cliente. El servidor puede proporcionar fragmentos en múltiples codificaciones para que el cliente pueda cambiar rápidamente a fragmentos de una velocidad de bit o una velocidad de reproducción diferente.
