Abstract

La descripción se relaciona a nuevas composiciones que comprenden un anión B12FxH12-x- que se pueden preparar químicamente o electroquímicamente por la oxidación de las sales B12FxH12-x2-. Este anión se puede generar electroquímicamente en un experimento de voltametría, o mediante químicamente por el tratamiento de los aniones (2-) con oxidantes potentes tales como las sales XeF2 o NO2(+). Las nuevas composiciones se pueden utilizar como oxidantes químicos de 1 electrón y en celdas electroquímicas tales como baterías de ión de litio donde su formación en potencial elevado puede servir para limitar el límite superior de voltaje durante la sobrecarga de tal celda.
