Abstract
Un metodo y sistema para operar de manera segura un motor diesel en un ambiente rico en metano, tal como una mina. El metodo incluye proporcionar un motor diesel que tiene una admision de aire, una camara de combustion, y un escape. El aire rico en metano se introduce en el motor a traves en la admision de aire y se mezcla con el combustible de diesel, el cual se quema. Los gases de escape se introducen en un convertidor que comprende un lecho de silice. El convertidor genera radicales de hidroxilo altamente reactivos que se atraen en la temperatura de combustion en los cilindros. Los radicales de hidroxilo forman el agua supercritica en los cilindros, y eliminan la formacion de hollin, incrementan la eficiencia del motor, y reducen la temperatura de combustion superior. Los metodos y sistemas divulgados significativamente reducen los contaminantes y el riesgo de explosiones dentro o cerca del motor diesel.
