Abstract

The variety of walnut-tree (Juglans regia L.) Karjeuţkii is obtained by individual selection from the seeds of district Briceni and destinated for walnut production in all the fruit-growing zones of the Republic of Moldova.The tree is of slow growing vigour, up to 10 m, with spheric crown of medium thickness. The skeletal branches are of a medium length and thickness, forming big angles with the leader. The pistol-formed flowers are of medium size, round-formed with big stigma of green-pink colour. The stamen-formed flowers are gathered in small aments.The trees blossom early. The variety is protogine.The fruits are of medium size, irregular. The nut has a cylindrical form with slightly sharp top, flat basis and well-distingished valves.The nutshell is thin, friable, yellow-grey, the surface is hilly.The kernel is ahite, covered with a pellicle of cream colour easily and completely detached, consists 40-50% of the nut weight.The trees enter early in the fruit-bearing period. The fruits on the tree are gathered in groups of 5 or 7 on a long fruit stem. The variety is characterized by a high resistance to cold, regular and high fruit productivity.
