Abstract
The invention relates to methods for estimating the toxicity of chemicals.The method, according to the invention, comprises the preparation of the Paramecium caudatum culture, addition to the test samples of the tested chemicals in various concentrations, incubation of the test and control samples, addition of the dye 3-amino-7-dimethylamino-2-methylphenazine hydrochloride, incubation followed by addition of the formalin solution, centrifugation of samples, removal of supernatant, addition of sodium hydroxide solution, determination of absorption with a spectrophotometer, afterwards is calculated the percentage of live paramecia and is determined the lethal concentration (LC50), at the same time the lower the LC50 concentration value, the higher the toxicity of the tested chemical.
