Abstract

The present invention pertains to sorbents useable for purification of drink water, particularly for removal of arsenic compounds. The offered sorbent for purification of drink water from arsenic compounds contains iron humic acid salts (iron humates) obtained from peat and composition thereof comprises iron at least 5 %, and carbon content is from 20 % to 50 %.Method for producing mentioned sorbent contains following steps: (i) dissolving peat humic acids in solution of alkali metal hydroxide, (ii) addition of FeCl3 solution to the mixture of peat humic acids, until precipitation is over, (iii) holding reaction mixture of, preferably round the clock, (iv) filtration, (v) washing precipitate on the filter, (preferably using distilled or demineralized water), (vi) drying. The offered sorbent allows to increase sorption capacity of arsenic compounds and provides with sorption of all kind oxidation grades As(-3), As(3), As(5) of mentioned arsenic compounds.
