Abstract

Height-adjustable support column (1) such as for supporting a table-top, which support column is formed by a upper section (2) which can be connected to the table-top (4) and a column (3), telescopically displaceable with respect to the upper section and which may rest on the floor. A mounting plate (7) extending within the column (3) and connected to the upper section (2) has a safety plate (16) articulated to it and spring-loaded (18), so that a lip (17) thereof can be inserted in a number of recesses (22), one above the other in the column (3). The safety plate (16) can be pivoted by means of a cable (19) so that its lip (17) is withdrawn from the recess (22) for displacement of the upper section (2) inwards in the column (3).
