Description

The present invention relates to an airtight container with a tear-off closure ring.

The invention relates more particularly to containers such as boxes, pots or buckets provided with a cover and a plastic ring ensuring a tight and tamper-proof connection between the cover and the body of the container.

Currently known packages such as those described in French patent 1,395,943 and in the French utility certificate 2,064,654 whose cover is fixed sui * the 10 body by a sealing ring of elastic plastic comprising two flanges lower and upper section in the form of hooks facing inwards, said flanges being joined by a thin tearable fabric. The body of the package and the cover each have a rolled edge and the closing ring 15 is mounted so as to cover the rolled edge of the body and to hang on it by means of its lower flange while the cover is embedded under the upper flange which surrounds and retains it by enclosing it elastically.

20 Such a closure ring does not have any flock let for crimping the cover so that it is possible to remove the latter by spreading the heel of the collar for example by elastically enlarging the diameter of the latter in the same way as at closing, when the cover-key 25 is pressed. Such a ring is therefore not inviolable.

Another type of closure ring is known from patent FR 2,159,166 which discloses a ring comprising a bead crimped in the cover but having no internal sealing and retaining lip on the body of the container and no tearable fabric between the bead and base, the opening being effected by tearing the hook which is used for anchoring on the body.

The elastic rings of these packages provide a hermetic seal and are perfectly suited for the packaging of inert or non-volatile products, or even for products stored at low temperature. On the other hand, for the packaging of volatile products at room temperature or stored at higher temperatures, this type of packaging presents a risk of accidental opening due to the fact that the near- 1 i 2. ' internal gas sion exerts on the cover a force such that the upper flange of the plastic closure ring is elastically deformed and no longer manages to retain said cover which is literally torn off.

5, The object of the invention is therefore to propose a container with a tear-off closure ring capable of retaining the lid of the packaging and preventing it from being torn off despite strong internal overpressures.

The hermetic container according to the invention comprises a hollow body provided with an opening with a fallen edge turned upside down, a lid which can be fitted into said opening and a tear-off closure ring intended to inviolably join the lid to the hollow body, said ring comprising an annular base which covers the fallen edge of the opening of the body 15 and which is provided with an anchoring heel engaged under the edge of said edge; in addition, this ring has an annular retaining bead on which the edge of the cover is wound, and the base of the ring has a tubular sealing lip which extends inside the hollow body from its edge fallen, said base and the retaining bead being joined together by a tearable fabric.

Preferably, the cover is metallic and its fallen edge is crimped onto the retaining bead of the closure ring during packaging and after capping.

However, the cover can also be made of another material such as, for example, plastic, and its fallen edge is then molded onto the bead.

The fact that the base of the ring has an annular lip which extends inside the hollow body from its fallen edge improves the sealing as well as the retention of the cover on the body after rupture of the fabric connecting the bead to the base of the ring, since it is intended that the wall of the body has an internal annular groove in the vicinity of the fallen edge and that the nestable part of the cover has a corresponding annular bulge intended to repel and pinching the sealing lip in the throat of the body.

The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to a particular embodiment cited by way of nonlimiting example and shown in the accompanying drawings "i 3. ' wherein :

Fig. 4 is a front view of the tear-off loop of the closure ring, 10 As shown in FIG. 1, the container according to the invention comprises a hollow body 1 cylindrical or slightly frustoconical in sheet metal, a nestable metallic cover 2 and a connecting ring 3 ensuring a hermetic and inviolable closure. This ring 3, preferably made of molded plastic material 15, comprises a base 4 which covers the upper edge of the body 1, a bead 5 for retaining the cover which covers it and a tearable or sectionable fabric 6 joining the bead 5 to the base 4. A tear-off tab 7 is secured to the tearable fabric 6 and a handle 8 forming an integral part of the ring 3 is connected to the base 4 by two opposite lateral tabs 9 and 10. The body 1 made of sheet metal from the container metallic has a first annular constriction or constriction 11 just below the closure ring 3 and a second constriction or constriction 12 at its base, the latter constricted allowing the excess thickness of metal 13 due to crimping of the bottom to be drowned and thus allowing the nesting of the containers in each other when they are stacked. The connection between the container body, the closure ring and the cover is more easily understood in section 5 of FIG. 3. As shown, the base 4 of the ring 3 has a section in the shape of an inverted U defining a internal annular skirt 19 and an external annular skirt 20 concentric with the internal skirt, said base covering the upper edge 21 of the hollow body 1 of the container, said edge being an edge turned 10 outwards and folded down so as to have a section transverse hook-shaped whose end edge 22 is oriented substantially opposite the opening of the hollow body 1.

When the ring 3 overlaps this folded edge 21 of the body 1, its internal skirt 19 descends inside said body along the wall and serves as a sealing lip for the cover, its lower end being protected by the constriction 11 of the body wall in case of scraping of the interior of the container.

The outer skirt 20 has, on its wall facing the container, an annular heel 23 disposed so as to engage under the edge 22 of the fallen edge 21 of the body 1 when the ring is fitted fully onto said edge.

The metal cover 2 is obtained by stamping; it is stackable and dispensable automatically and fits by pressure into the opening of the hollow body 1 of the container. From 25 from the periphery to the center, the cover 2 comprises (FIG. 3) first a fallen edge 25 wound on the bead 5 of the closure ring 3, the winding being obtained by crimping the sheet of the cover on the bead at the time of plugging then • a slightly conical wall 26 which fits inside the ring formed by the bead 5 and ends in an annular shoulder 27 kept apart from a height e of the base 4 by stampings 34, then the sheet of the cover is stamped so as to form a circular trough 28 nestable in the opening of the hollow body, this trough having a U-shaped section 35 whose outer wall 29 has an annular bulge 30 intended to cooperate with a circular groove 31 stamped in the wall of the hollow body 1 and to pinch the sealing lip 19 of the ring in said groove. The central part 32 of the cover rises at the level of the shoulder 27 so as to allow the empi 5. ' \ the age of the covers and their automatic distribution.

The space e between the shoulder 27 of the cover and the base 4 of the ring 3 allows, after tearing the fabric 6, to introduce the end of a tool for extracting the cover 5 from the opening d entry of the container body.

Note that after opening the pot, the upper bead of the ring remains crimped into the fallen edge of the cover and thus avoids the risk of cutting. Once closed, after the rupture of the closing ring, the jar retains an excellent tightness thanks to the skirt or internal lip 19 of the ring compressed between the lid and the jar; to further increase the seal, the upper part of this lip has an extra thickness 33 just above the location of the groove 31 of the body 'between said groove and the fallen edge, which further increases the' resistance to removal of the cover.

This tearing is also made impossible, within the limit of course of the resistance to rupture of the thinned parts 14 and 15 of the ring, by the fact that the fallen edge of the cover is crimped on the bead 5 and that the edge 22 of the fallen edge 21 of the body 1 housed in the bottom of the base 4. is anchored in the heel 23 of the ring when the latter is urged to tear off.

Of course, the scope of the invention is not limited to the single embodiment described above by way of non-limiting example, but it also covers any variant which would differ only in details.

Thus, for example, instead of having a handle molded simultaneously with the ring, only the two fasteners, the handle are an integral part of said ring, and the handle, in mé ~ * 30 tal ou other material, is reported d; articulated on the fasteners.

Claims (7)

1. Hermetic container comprising a hollow body provided with an opening with a fallen edge turned outwardly, a lid which can be fitted into said opening and a tearable closing ring 5 intended to unbreakably secure the lid to the hollow body, said ring comprising an annular base. which covers the fallen edge of the opening of the body and which is provided with an anchoring heel engaged under the edge of said edge, this ring further comprising an annular retaining bead on which the edge of the cover is wound, characterized in that the base of the ring has a tubular sealing lip which extends inside the hollow body from its fallen edge and in that said base and the retaining bead are joined together by a tearable canvas. > 15 2. Container according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the upper part of the sealing lip situated between the fallen edge and the internal, internal annular groove of the body has an additional thickness relative to the part , 30 lower of said lip. 6. Container according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the cover has an annular shoulder which remains spaced from the base of the closure ring after fitting said cover into the inlet opening of the body . 7.
