Abstract

A public telephone interface device and method of a private exchange connect a local telephone and a long-distance telephone using PABX, and periodically transmit an accounting signal needed to a public telephone accounting. The public telephone interface device includes: a public telephone interface part(1); a tone generator(4) for generating an accounting tone signal according to a control signal of the CPU(1); a switch(5) for selectively switching the public telephone interface part(1), a subscriber circuit(2) and a relay line circuit(3), and connects them to the CPU(11); a pulse detector(5) for detecting a pulse generated when dialing from the public telephones(PP1,PP2); a metering signal detector(7) for detecting an wering signal and an accounting signal, and providing them to CPU(11); DTMF tone receiver(8) for receiving DTMF tone from the public telephones(PP1,PP2), and providing the DTMF tone to the CPU(11); a memory(9) for storing various information; a time generator(10) for generating a signal of a predetermined period; and a CPU(11) for controlling an entire system.
