본 발명은 영상 압축 방법에 있어서, 일정범위의 서브블럭단위로 영상데이타를 입력받아, 상기 입력되는 처리영상블럭의 명암도를 판단하여 배경블럭 또는 중간블럭 또는 문자블럭으로 구분하여 블럭정보를 생성하는 블럭 구분단계와, 상기 블럭구분된 영상데이타를 DCT변환하는 DCT변환단계와, 상기 DCT변환된 계수들을 양자화하는 양자화단계와, 상기 처리영상블럭이 배경블럭이면, 처리블럭내애서 DC데이타를 기준으로 근접한 소정 갯수의 데이타만을 선택하여 블럭정보를 포함하여 산술부호화하여 영상압축데이타로 출력하는 배경블럭 압축단계와, 상기 처리영상블럭이 문자블럭이면, 블럭내 DC데이타를 중심으로 문자블럭재배열정보에 대응하여 블럭정보를 포함하여 산술부호화하여 영상압축데이타로 출력하는 문자블럭압축단계와, 상기 처리블럭이 중간블럭이면, 블럭내 DC데이타를 중심으로 지그재그선택하여 블럭정보와 함께 산술부호화하여 영상압축데이타로 출력하는 중간블럭압축단계로 구성한다.In the image compression method, a block for generating block information by receiving image data in a unit of a predetermined range of sub blocks, determining the intensity of the input image block, and dividing it into a background block, an intermediate block, or a character block.
