종래에는 IC내부에 VCO(혹은 필터)를 설계하고 핀(pin)을 외부로 내어, 가변 저항이나 가변 소스(source)를 이용하여 사용자가 직접 출력을 측정하면서 조정할수 있도록 구성하여Tsmsq, 기준신호를 VCO(혹은 필터)에 입력하고 출력을 측정하여 목적으로 하는 스팩에서 벗어난 만큼 외부 소오스를 조정하여 목적하는 스팩에 맞추는 과정을 반드시 거친다. 그러나 이와같은 구성 및 그에 따른 조정방법은 기준값을 입력하고 출력을 측정해서 가변 소오스를 조정하는데 걸리는 시간이 수초 이상이고, 이러한 시간은 곧 비용으로 환산될 뿐만 아니라 조정을 사람이 하므로 인건비가 들고, 조정회로를 외부에 두었을 경우의 부품비등도 감안해야 하므로 시간 및 비용이 많이 소요된다는 단점이 있다. 또한 측정 및 조정을 사람이 하기 때문에 부넝확할 우려가 많다는 문제점도 있다.Conventionally, a VCO (or filter) is designed inside the IC, and a pin is taken out to be configured so that the user can directly adjust the output by measuring the output by using a variable resistor or a variable source.
