The stripe-shaped mirrors formed on each of the dividers are spaced at regular intervals, and the amount of light transmitted through each of the dividers during one pitch is reflected and received according to the positional relationship with the encoding glass. The position of the inductor can be grasped to the micrometer unit by grasping the relationship of the amount of light that changes with the sine wave detected by each light detecting means, thereby driving the stepping motor.
