Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a ferroelectric liquid crystal display device, comprising a pair of upper and lower substrates, a transparent electrode formed on each of the substrates, an alignment film formed on top of each of the transparent electrodes and rubbed in a predetermined direction, and injected between the alignment films. In a ferroelectric liquid crystal display device having a ferroelectric liquid crystal, the upper and lower substrates are bonded by adjusting the angle of the rubbing direction of the alignment film to be 2 ± 0.2 times the intrinsic tilt angle of the liquid crystal. The liquid crystal display of the present invention is capable of displaying a halftone, having excellent optical characteristics, and having a fast response speed.
