The invention resides in a nonlinear aromatic polyamide fiber having a reversible deflection greater than 1.2:1 when measured at ambient temperatures, a variation of fiber diameter not more than 15 percent at the bends or crimps of the fiber, and a bending strain value of less than 50 percent, and the method of preparing said fiber.
